Things that get the heart racing faster, the hands dirty, and the hair soaking wet. Things that test our nerves, especially when it comes to heights and speed.
Costa Rica is a wonderful country for experiencing nature, hiking through rainforests, and relaxing on gorgeous, tropical beaches. There's a time and a place for all that, and we'll help you there, too.
But there's also time - if you dare - to get super active and enjoy some of the most extreme activities you'll ever do, activities that, like us, you might not have thought about doing elsewhere. Let's whet your appetite for adventure.
Zip-Lining
No trip to Costa Rica would be complete without a zip lining tour. There truly is no better place to zip line than through the treetop canopies of the rainforest or cloud forest.
While Costa Rica has no shortage of amazing zip line experiences, our favorite places to zip line have to be in the Arenal Volcano area. Zipping through the rainforest on a cable really is the best way to see the majestic Arenal volcano.
We also recommend Monteverde for zip lining - the cloud forests here are home to Costa Rica's longest and original canopy zip line experiences. In reality, though, you'll find a wonderful canopy tour wherever you are in Costa Rica. Just ask us!
Whitewater Rafting
Even if you've been white water rafting before, we always recommend this experience in Costa Rica. After all, there are few places to enjoy remote rainforests accessible only by river.
Costa Rica is home to all levels of rapids, so don't worry - we'll find the level you prefer. We recommend the Rio Pacuare to see some of the most beautiful scenery as you fight the rapids in the rainforest.
Other great white water rafting destinations are around Arenal and on the Central Pacific coast.
Waterfall Rapelling
Anything involving waterfalls gets our vote as a favorite all-time Costa Rica extreme adventure activity! There's nothing like hanging on the side of a 200-foot waterfall in the rainforest and rappelling down into a pool of water.
The views can’t be beaten, and the adrenaline as you come over the edge and see the canyon below is something you'll never forget.
Aside from rappelling down waterfalls, you can also - sometimes - do it the quick way. Jumping down them instead!
Leaping off the sides of canyons and plunging into flowing waterfalls and deep pools is for adventure seekers only, and if this appeals to you, let us know and we'll hook you up.
Caving
If you're not worried about darkness and enclosed spaces, how about exploring a part of Costa Rica that not many experience? How about a spot of caving or spelunking?
Getting underground to explore underground rivers, stalactites, and stalagmites is an unforgettable experience, and you'll feel like a true explorer as they fit you out with rappelling gear, helmet, and flashlight.
You can experience spelunking in Guanacaste and Arenal.
Getting High
Costa Rica is a great place to get high! We're talking, of course, about the type of extreme adventure activities that take you into the clouds.
Costa Rica’s best skydiving experience is in the Manuel Antonio area. The dramatic landscapes, the exhilarating free fall, and scenic parachute ride is an adrenaline-filled way to see Costa Rica's Central Pacific. Manuel Antonio is also great for paragliding off the beach.
You can also enjoy ultralight flights in some areas of the country, where - if you're not afraid of heights - you'll experience the most spectacular views you'll ever see.
