Historically, Liberia was called āThe White Cityā because its homes and churches were painted with natural white limestone, the sandy roads were white, and even the people dressed in all white to beat the heat. Youāll learn more about the history and some unique buildings on tour.
Guanacaste
Originally the town had a different name, El Guanacaste, which was used more as its address. Thereās a 200-year-old Guanacaste tree in the city's center, so thatās how the people of Liberia describe the area. Today, the treeās canopy spans 120 feet, providing shade for the park, and its trunk measures 15 feet around.
