We'd add a few things ourselves to a description of the Cielo Lodge. First, we'd say it's slightly more than minimalist and modern; we'd call it, in fact, the last word in boutique, understated, eco-luxury. And we're not the only ones to praise Cielo Lodge, either. Since it opened in the hills above the port of Golfito in Costa Rica's Southern Zone, Harper's Bazaar named it in its "20 Best Places to Travel in 2021" list. Forbes said it was one of its "Ten Cool New Hotels to Visit in 2021". Conde Naste Traveler put Cielo Lodge on its 2021 hot list of the best new hotels globally, while Travel and Leisure also put it on their "Editors' Picks" list of best unique hotels in the world for 2021.

In short, Cielo Lodge is famous and making waves with travel experts.

The best way to get to Cielo Lodge is to fly to Golfito from San Jose. They'll pick you up at the Golfito Airport - included in the rate - for the 30-minute drive out of town, up into hills to an elevation of just over 1,000 ft. Alternatively, you can drive yourself to Golfito and the lodge from there. A 4x4 SUV is recommended if you're doing this.
