Sometimes referred to as the “silver king,” tarpon is often overlooked in favor of the distinctive blue marlin. However, the tarpon that swims in the waters off Tortuguero is a considerable challenge for even the most experienced angler. Tarpon in this region routinely weigh in excess of 100 pounds, and specimens almost twice that size are not uncommon. Peak months in the canals are January-May and September-October for inshore.
