For US citizens, including minors under the age of 18, entry requirements are:
- A valid passport
- A pre-purchased airline ticket exiting Panama
For non-USA citizens, sometimes a visa or other paperwork is required in addition to the previous two. Regardless of your nationality, we strongly recommend that you check with the nearest Panama Consulate for the most up-to-date entry requirements. Passport must be valid for at least six (6) months after the entry date.
No shots are required for entry into Panama for USA citizens. However, the yellow fever vaccine is mandatory for all people traveling from Brazil. We always recommend discussing any concerns with your primary care physician.
Many vendors accept only VISA or MasterCard credit and debit cards. American Express is very difficult to use here, so we recommend using one of the others. When traveling to Panama, be sure to call your bank ahead of time to let them know. Keep in mind most vendors give discounts for using cash, as credit card merchant companies charge high percentages on transactions here.
We recommend that you have at least $100 cash with you upon arrival. Only carry $1, $5, $10, $20 bills, since higher bills are not widely accepted. This will let you cover unforeseen purchases and tips. Any extra cash depends on your plans and preferences. We recommend that you always place your cash, valuables, and passports in your hotel's safe deposit box every time you leave your room.
