Before You Travel
We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect your trip against unexpected events such as flight disruptions, medical emergencies, or last-minute cancellations.

The entry requirements for Colombia depend on your nationality and the purpose of your visit. Check with the nearest Colombian embassy or consulate in your country for the most up-to-date information specific to your situation. Generally, most US citizens will have only the following entry requirements:
- A valid passport
- A return ticket
Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your intended departure date to avoid issues. Make sure to check with the nearest embassy or consulate in case any other documents or vaccinations are required.
Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted, while American Express may be more limited. We recommend notifying your bank or card provider before traveling.
We recommend carrying around $100 in cash for tips and small purchases, preferably in $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills, as larger denominations may be harder to use. For added security, we recommend keeping extra cash, valuables, and passports in your hotel safe whenever possible.
In-Country Questions
Tipping for services is a common practice in Colombia and is greatly appreciated by the people who work for you during your vacation. Some guidelines for tipping include:
- Tour guides: $7 to $13 per person
- Drivers: $9 to $13 per day
- Hotel or airport porters: $4
- Restaurants: 10% of the bill, unless already included
Please note there's no need to tip taxi drivers.
Generally, yes. Colombia has two main types of taxis: yellow and white ones. The white ones are shared, and the yellow ones will only take you and your companions. Depending on the city you're in, taxis might measure their services differently, and charge accordingly.
There are apps and websites you can use to obtain more information about your taxi driver and route, but depending on the time and area extras might still apply. Because of all this, we always recommend private transfers to make everything easier for you.
A photo or physical copy of your passport may be required when checking in at some hotels or visiting certain national parks.
For tours that require passport information, such as national parks or fishing licenses, we'll request these details from you before your trip.
Unless your itinerary states otherwise, your driver or tour guide will meet you in your hotel's main lobby.
Occasional delays can happen due to traffic or other unexpected circumstances, so don’t worry if your driver arrives a few minutes late. If they are more than 10 minutes late, please contact our Travel Experience Team.

We recommend drinking bottled water and bringing any prescription or over-the-counter medication you may need during your trip. If you have specific health concerns, please speak with your healthcare provider before traveling and contact us so we can help set appropriate expectations for your destination.
For a smooth departure, we recommend arriving at the airport at least three hours before your international flight to allow enough time for check-in, security, and immigration.
