While Monteverde is more well known for quetzals, only in San Gerardo de Dota can you see them all year.

The temperature in San Gerardo de Dota is quite different than in much of Costa Rica. The temperature can be as low as 55 degrees at night as itās a cloud forest. Daytime temperatures may be in the low 70s. Rain is expected all year. Donāt count on a true dry season. Rain is present most days, but this adds to the beauty of the forest. You may get away with shorts and T-shirts during the day but will need a sweater at night. Some lodges provide space heaters.

How To Get to San Gerardo de Dota
Private transport with an English-speaking driver will take you south from San Jose along the Pan American highway toward Cerro de la Muerte. In 3.5 hours, youāll be in San Gerardo de Dota. Part of the ride is quite bumpy and muddy as itās not paved, but that part allows for some great memories and photos. San Gerardo is 3 hours from Manuel Antonio and Dominical. Its elevation and humidity make for a drastic change from the weather at the beach.
