Welcome to Lapa Rios!
Opened in 1993, the award-winning Lapa Rios Lodge is one of National Geographicās Unique Lodges of the World, and itās easy to see why. This boutique eco-sanctuary is located way down south on the Osa Peninsula in the wildest part of Costa Rica, sitting amid 1,000 acres of private rainforest reserve in Central Americaās largest remaining Pacific lowland tropical rainforest.
Private Bungalows in the Heart of the Jungle
A stay at Lapa Rios is a blend of being surrounded by nature and comfortable luxury. The lodge consists of 17 open-sided, thatched-roof bungalows, scattered along a steep hillside that ends steps away from the beach close to where the waters of the Golfo Dulce meet the Pacific Ocean. Each bungalow comes with top-of-the-line furnishings, including netted beds, ceiling fans, indoor/outdoor showers, and a private deck with lounge chairs and a hammock.
Since the room is completely open, it allows the sounds of wildlife and the ocean breeze to enter. Bungalows further down the hill are closer to the beach and ocean, while those higher up are closer to the lobby and pool area. Shuttles can take you up and down the hill if you don't feel like walking the many steps on the property.
As an eco-resort dedicated to environmental protection, Lapa Rios does not A/C in the bungalows, although the open style and fresh ocean breezes mean that itās not necessary in any case. Equally, there are no TVs either. Internet is available through fiber-optic cable.
Daily Meals Included
Due to its remote rainforest location, there are no restaurants near to Lapa Rios, meaning you'll be eating at the onsite restaurant, and three multi-course meals are included in the rates. Also included are non-alcoholic/non-mixed beverages. Menus rotate every couple of days, and offer an array of local favorites and international dishes prepared with fresh, locally sourced food. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are also available. Try the catch-of-the-day and make sure to taste the desserts! Ask if there are any pastries or fudge brownies... they are to die for.
In case you have room for a snack (the portions are really generous!), there is banana bread and coffee for early risers, and chips and dips laid out on the main deck throughout the day. They also offer a fully-stocked bar for afternoon/evening cocktails. Food and beverage service is available by the pool as well. Also, if you want, a hot drink can be delivered (by request) to your bungalow every morning to help you welcome the new day in style.
