Pedal Boarding on Lake Arenal
Walk on Water, Get Close with Nature & Admire the Arenal Volcano
‘Pedal Boarding’ is perfect for:
Families, couples, and groups who want an adventure at Lake Arenal.
Admire Arenal Lake and the looming Arenal Volcano from a unique perspective in this tour that lets you walk on water.
Explore the human-made lake on the base of the volcano atop a pedalboard, and make your way around the water while learning about its historical and natural significance in the area.
Although it sounds similar to stand-up paddle boarding, pedal boarding is a different experience as you use your legs to move around. This is a great combination of both exercise and sightseeing to make the most of your stay in La Fortuna!
Pedal Board in Costa Rica: Walking on Water
First, take a short trip from the hotel to Lake Arenal. Admire the lush vegetation in the area during the drive, and upon arrival prepare to surmount the lake’s waters.
The lake itself is calm, and the boards sturdy and firm. The board has handlebars for you to hold onto, as well as an intuitive steering system to glide across the water. This makes for a seamless experience even if you have no previous experience.
An expert guide gears you up and teaches you how to use the board and its two different speeds. Practice for a while near the shore, and then the real adventure begins.
Nature, Culture & Exercise
Follow the guide and pedal across the lake. Scour the waters along the coast, taking it all in. Standing up on the water allows for great views of the surrounding mountains and the volcano. Adjust speed to go at a slower, easier pace or make for a harder workout.
The shore is full of trees and vegetation, so make sure to keep your eyes open for a chance to peek at monkeys and birds moving around.
Head to the area known as The Peninsula, where it’s time to rest. Seize the moment and jump onto the lake for a refreshing dip. If you prefer a quieter time, simply sit back and relax by the shore admiring the nature around you.
Snack on some fruits while the guide provides information about the volcano, its lake, its ecosystem, and its history.
Once everyone is ready, pedal all the way back to the place where you started. Return to the hotel to rest and in the company of great memories and photos.
