Discover Arenal: Sloths in a Reserve
Take a drive through the Arenal area to a sloth sanctuary just outside of La Fortuna. This family-owned property is dedicated to the protection of the sloths that live in its forest.
Walk down a mile through the trees and follow an expert guide as they explain the relationships between the different plants and animals in the reserve.
The guides make their best to find and point out as many sloths as possible for you to take the best pictures. Keep your eyes open and try to become an expert yourself!
Traditional Farming in Costa Rica
Then it’s time to bring out the old McDonald within you. Head to the town of Agua Azul to an eco-friendly farm, also owned by a local family. In this tour you’ll learn how to do various farming activities in the style of Costa Rica’s ancestors. Learn about the history and use of specific tools and taste organic products grown at the farm.
Milk cows, feed animals, extract sugar cane juice, distill liquor, and make chocolate from cocoa beans in the way the indigenous populations of the area used to make it. Then visit the farm’s orchid and garden, full of medicinal plants.
Arenal Volcano Hike, Boat Tour & Hot Springs
After lunch, it’s time to see one of Costa Rica’s most iconic landmarks. Head to the Arenal Volcano National Park. Hike for around a mile where you can admire the flora and fauna of the area, as well as views of Arenal Volcano and Arenal Lake.
Then hop on a boat on the man-made Arenal Lake, and traverse its waters to admire the forest and wildlife that live on shore.
In addition, the Arenal area has several hot springs, thanks to the thermal energy from the volcano. End the trip by spending some hours relaxing in the natural mineral waters of various hot springs pools, and finally head back to the hotel to continue your vacation.
If this sounds like something you’d want to do during your Costa Rica vacation, we can make it happen. It’s easy!
