Choosing the Route for a Holiday in Costa Rica

Ten or more days of traveling in Costa Rica afford you the opportunity to see the great variety this beautiful country has to offer, much more than most people are able to.

There are a series of old-time favorite locations to see, such as Arenal Volcano, the beaches of Guanacaste, or the coastal rainforest of Manuel Antonio.

With more time in your hands, you may want to consider less-visited locations to expand your knowledge of the area, like Rincon de la Vieja, the Osa Peninsula, and Caño Negro.

Also, it’s necessary to think about the best way to make sure the trip is both fulfilling and relaxing, so you don’t get exhausted in the middle of it.

For example, perhaps start your time with more energetic activities, such as zip lining and whitewater rafting, leaving beach time until the end to make sure you go home refreshed and renewed.

Depending on what you want to do, our Travel Consultants can help you make the best of your time to see as much as possible. Simply let them know what you want, and they’ll gladly help arrange everything.

How to Get Around in Costa Rica?

For longer packages, moving around the country is a serious consideration.

While most of our clients prefer to use private transfers, sometimes the freedom to get around on your own can be very tempting, especially if you are planning a longer stay. This is why we offer the option of renting a car.

A Travel Consultant will be happy to discuss the benefits of both types of transport, so that you can make the best decision for you and your travel companions.

To make the best decision, take into account the following questions:

  • Will you be staying in the same accommodation for several days in a row? If so, private transfers may be more convenient and less expensive.
  • Are you comfortable asking for directions in Spanish? If not, it might be frustrating to drive on your own

While GPS has improved navigation in Costa Rica dramatically, there are still issues with road signage and closures that will be best resolved by asking a local, who may or may not speak English. If you feel confident enough about this type of adventure, then maybe driving on your own is the best option.

Using private or even shared transfers take the worries away from many of our clients, allowing you to simply sit back and enjoy the trip with the confidence a knowledgable driver is taking care of everything.

The Best Accommodation for Your Costa Rica Holiday

With longer trips, it may be to your benefit to explore different kinds of lodging during your time in Costa Rica. We recommend two main types: rentals and hotels or ecolodges.

Rentals: A Home Away from Home

In Costa Rica, the best rentals are in beach locations, specifically Manuel Antonio, Guanacaste, and Jacó.

If you are planning to stay in the same place for a number of days and explore from there, rentals are a cost-effective and convenient way to do so, especially if you travel with family or a larger group.

A Travel Consultant can point out the best choices for your budget and lifestyle. For example, you may prefer to eat in, so you will want something near to a grocery store. If you are in a group or traveling with children, you may prefer a private pool for the sake of convenience.

Boutique Hotels & Eco-lodges

Other areas, such as Arenal and Tortuguero, are best visited by choosing more traditional hotels.

That said, each property is unique, and by working with a Travel Consultant, you can find the best options for your personal preferences.

This could be meal-inclusive stays where you don’t have to lift a finger, breakfast-included hotels where you are ready to start out for the day, or more independent options that let you make your own choices about where and when to eat.

No matter the trip you choose, you will have an incredible few weeks in paradise. Feel free to contact us while you are in the planning process, and we will be happy to work with you to plan your dream holiday in Costa Rica.
