‘Self-Drive Costa Rica Family Adventure’ is perfect for:

Families or groups who want to explore Costa Rica’s natural highlights and hidden gems at their own pace.

Rent a car and move around Costa Rica to discover its wonders at your leisure. Traverse the country from the mountains and volcano to off-the-beaten-track beaches. The best part is you can stop at any point you want to see even more.

Experience adventure and nature every step of the way, as well as world-class service and relaxation. There’s no better way to have a Costa Rican holiday than to explore it with the freedom of your own transportation. It’s all part of the excitement!

Hanging Bridges & River Tubing in Arenal

After spending one night in the Central Valley, start driving towards the famous town of La Fortuna. Here you stay at Arenal Kioro, a kid-friendly hotel surrounded by the rainforest and views of Arenal Volcano.

This area is also known as the ‘adventure capital’ of Costa Rica, and with good reason: there is something to do for everyone, from the little ones to the grown-ups. Visit the hanging bridges in a guided tour through the forest, and head out on a river tubing tour across easy waters to spot local wildlife.

Hiking Through Monteverde’s Cloud Forest

Continue your exploration of the mountainside by visiting Monteverde. This town and reserve host a cloud forest, famous for being the home of the Quetzal, an iconic bird of Central America.

The Belmar Hotel is within easy reach of the forest too, and it’s ideal to relax and enjoy the views. Take a tour along the paths of the reserve to admire the tropical flowers and creatures that hide among the branches.

Ocean Adventures in Tamarindo

Now it’s time to enjoy the bustling atmosphere of a favorite Costa Rican surfer’s spot. Your hotel is Cala Luna, within easy reach of the main town and beach at Tamarindo. This place has a great location to experience both natural highlights or dining and shopping.

There are great waves to ride too, particularly if you are a beginner. Let the children get a chance at the sport with a surf lesson that will have you on a board in no time. Then take a tour in a catamaran to explore the waters of the Pacific and practice some snorkeling and swimming.

Nosara’s Beachside Relaxation

After a vacation full of action and activities, head to The Gilded Iguana, in Nosara. This off-the-trodden-path location provides a calm atmosphere a short walk away from the beach. It’s the best way to see the more relaxed side of Costa Rica’s Pura Vida lifestyle.

Rest and recharge before heading to San José one more time, and then go back home with memories that will last a lifetime.
