At the Base of Arenal Volcano

Tabacon Resort is located on the outskirts of the Arenal Volcano National Park. This is three hours by car from both the San Jose International Airport and the Liberia International airport. It is also within 15 minutes of the national park and La Fortuna, the main town in the area.

Tranquility with Volcano Views

The extensive resort offers a peaceful atmosphere throughout the property, with an attentive staff that works together to make this a hassle-free vacation.

Tabacon is all about connecting with the stunning landscape. Nature is at the front and center on the property, with lush gardens and room designs that invite you to immerse yourself in the earthy surroundings.

The property’s room options cater to a variety of travelers, ranging from basic to lavishly luxurious. All of them encourage you to rest and unwind. Sit back on the terrace and admire the colossal Arenal Volcano and rainforest right outside your door.

Enjoy the Hot Springs & Gardens

There is a reason why Tabacon has earned several awards across the years, including 2019’s Condé Nast Traveler’s Reader’s Choice Award.

Renowned for its hot springs and gardens, Tabacon offers the opportunity to truly unwind in a resort with dedicated and detail-oriented service.

The property is beautifully landscaped, creating a series of thermal hot springs pools that blend with the rainforest. The mineral water is fed by a naturally heated river that crosses the property, creating a “hot springs trail” where you can spot waterfalls and volcanic stones along the way.

Sections of the hot springs are open to the general public with a day pass, so Tabacon has created a quieter place exclusive for their guests.

The adult-only Shangri La Gardens is where you can enjoy six more thermal pools, order drinks and snacks, and have your choice of lounging areas. There are cabanas and seats built into the hot water so you can recharge.

To get to the hot springs, walk for around 10 minutes from the main hotel facilities, or take the shuttle the hotel offers. Yet, a stroll around the gardens is highly recommended—There are sloths, exotic birds, lizards, and insects to spot on the way!

An Award-Winning Spa

In addition to the soothing gardens and hot springs, the hotel has the world-renowned Grand Spa. This spa has won several awards, including recognition from Spa & Wellness Mexicaribe, which highlights the best spas in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Be sure to make time to indulge in a therapeutic massage, volcanic mud wrap, or coffee exfoliation. Hot stone and Swedish massages are highly recommended by visitors as well.

The spa recommends being there at least 15 minutes before your session, but it’s best to arrive at least an hour early to sit comfortably and relax in the Jacuzzi in the waiting area.

Fine International Dining with Local Flavors

Tabacon Resort has two on-site restaurants and two bars, where guests can try different menus that combine the highest international standards with fresh local ingredients.

Los Tucanes Restaurant serves a substantial buffet breakfast and a la carte dinner. It’s located near the hotel’s outdoor Jacuzzi, and with its open-air design, it’s a favorite spot to steal glances at the volcano.

Breakfast is a culinary experience: the different food stations offer general favorites like pancakes, waffles, cheeses, and eggs, as well as Costa Rican options like tamales, gallo pinto (rice and beans), seasonal fruits, and more.

Across the way at the hot springs, you can dine for lunch and dinner at Ave de Paraiso without having to drag yourself far from the relaxing waters. Its casual ambiance allows guests and day visitors to enjoy a meal full of local flavors without a care in the world.

For drinks, head to one of the two bars. Both serve lighter dishes like ceviche, nachos, and sandwiches, as well as fresh tropical cocktails.

The swim-up Arenal Wet Bar is right on one of the hot springs pools, so it’s perfect for poolside service with music. If you would like to spend an afternoon with a cup of coffee, some tapas, or watching international sports, Caña Brava Lobby Bar is your place.

The kitchen is also able to handle special diets from gluten-free to kosher, so don’t hesitate to ask.
