El Remanso Lodge
An Eco-Conscious Lodge Nestled in the Jungle
‘El Remanso Lodge’ is perfect for:
Couples, families or groups who are true nature lovers and want a secluded stay that combines both the beach and rainforest.
Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula is famous for being one of the most biodiverse areas in the country. Nestled on the hills right at the end of this peninsula is El Remanso Lodge.
This rustic-chic hotel is a haven of nature and peace, as it allows you to escape into the jungle while having a comfortable space to relax and rest near the beach.
What to Expect
- Proximity to nature. The jungle and its wildlife are always at arm’s length.
- Isolation. The hotel is accessible by car, but it’s away from other populated areas.
- World-class service. Detail-oriented staff and personalized attention are staples of this hotel.
What NOT to Expect
- Extreme luxury. Rooms are well-appointed but without any excesses.
- Resort amenities. El Remanso Lodge is a boutique hotel, designed to provide a down-to-earth and intimate experience of the area.
Secluded and peaceful, El Remanso is perfect to enjoy harmony with nature.
With 185 acres of private reserve, El Remanso Lodge is a haven of wildlife, vegetation, modern standards of hospitality, and eco-sustainable practices.
It’s located right at the end of Osa Peninsula, on the lush South Pacific coast of Costa Rica. It’s close to the renowned Corcovado National Park, and a 45-minute drive away from Puerto Jiménez, a town with its own airstrip for local flights.
An Eco-Conscious Boutique Hotel
The essence of El Remanso is the surrounding flora and faun. As a boutique hotel, it provides a peaceful place to rest while admiring the jungle and ocean views.
The fact the area is not heavily populated means that your chances to spot wildlife are higher, as animals don’t run away from any noises or human contact.
In addition, everything at the hotel, from the lobby to the rooms, has been designed to blend seamlessly into the surroundings, allowing you to enjoy the sounds and sights of the rainforest.
The rooms have no glass but a net, making you feel connected with the world outside at all times. Let the songs of frogs and owls lull you into sleep, and wake up to the chatter of parrots and the growls of howler monkeys the next morning.
Relax by lounging at the plunge pool outside your room or the hammock at the porch, and enjoy the ocean breeze while listening and watching the expansive nature that surrounds you from the large wooden deck. Make sure to be here at sunset, as it offers the best views.
Environmental Policies, Local Crafts & Gourmet Dining
El Remanso is also dedicated to protecting the area through several environmentally friendly practices: the lodge was one of the first in Costa Rica to provide its electricity exclusively by its own micro-hydro system, and they have their own composting system as well as local reforestation programs.
Due to its commitment to the community, the hotel has a small gift shop showcasing local arts and crafts, as well as an exchange library for when you want a slower activity.
The on-site restaurant also has a long-range view which you can enjoy from your seat. With a la carte options that show the best Costa Rican flavors with international twists, meals are a combination of healthy and tasty options, including vegetarian choices.
Beach Relaxation & Jungle Adventures
Staying at Osa Peninsula is all about heading out to enjoy the landscape and its inhabitants.
Take a morning hike and head to beach across two of the well-maintained trails that expand from the hotel. One of them is a half-a-mile downhill walk and the other a 3-mile trail.
They both take you to the beach, which has a strong current and is therefore not swimmable. Instead, it provides crashing waves, warm sand, several types of trees, and rock pools.
Spot pelicans, hawks, and crabs as you walk along or sunbathe. As it’s located in a remote part of the country, it usually has few to no visitors, letting you immerse yourself in its natural beauty.
The hotel also offers guided adventure tours and hiking trails. Follow an expert around the reserve for an early birdwatching tour and snap as many photos as you can. Or hit the the road at dusk for a night hike, and discover the animals that hide in the dark.
One of the trails also has two suspension bridges, so this is a good spot to slow down and search for animals. The forest is full of creatures like macaws, toucans, monkeys, snakes, spiders, lizards and iguanas that run around the forest.
