This volunteer tour with Kids Saving the Rainforest is the best way to give some hands-on help to local animals while learning about the issues facing wildlife in Costa Rica, and of course have some fun! This organization is a safe haven for injured and orphaned animals like sloths, monkeys, and birds with the goal of rehabilitating and releasing them back into the jungle. They also work on reforestation and habitat protection projects.

Just 45 minutes from Manuel Antonio, you’ll arrive at the tour site where you’ll meet your KSTR representative who will give you a tour of the grounds and animal sanctuary and tell you about the organization. With a break for snacks, a swim, and a traditional lunch to break up the day, you will have plenty of time to get to know the staff and hear their stories.

During lunch your representative will explain the tasks that you will be helping with in the afternoon. Then it’s off to work helping the staff and long-term volunteers with tasks like preparing food for the animals, cleaning or repairing enclosures, creating enrichment toys for the animals, animal research like observing behavior, organizing materials, etc. Larger groups may help with projects like trail maintenance and reforestation.

No experience is required. This activity is great for everyone aged 8+.

*The majority of the tour cost will be donated to KSTR to help them achieve their goals.

Note: For the well-being of the animals, volunteers will not be allowed to touch or feed any animals. KSTR’s projects vary week-to-week so your experience may differ depending on the day’s priorities. Tour does not operate on Tuesdays.
