Volunteer in a Local Community
Spend a Day Helping Out in a Poor Local Neighborhood
During this full day tour with the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC) you will learn about the issues that the impoverished local community faces and have fun while you interact with the residents while you prepare and serve a meal at the local Soup Kitchen.
The town of Alajuelita on the outskirts of the capital is the home to mostly women and children Nicaraguan immigrants who are seeking refuge from natural disasters, political conflict and lack of economic opportunities in their home country. FIMRC provides psychological services and educational outreach programs out of a free medical clinic for this population, the majority of which lack health insurance and cannot afford medical care.
Your FIMRC representative will explain the tasks that you will be helping with during the 4 hours of volunteer time. If time permits, you’ll go on a tour of the neighborhood to learn about community issues and meet some of the people that are served by the local programs. Afterwards, you head to the local Soup Kitchen where you will help out by preparing and serving local children and mothers a healthy mid-day meal. No experience required; this activity is great for everyone.
*Part of the tour cost will be donated to FIMRC to help them achieve their goals.
