FAQs About Places to Stay in Nosara, Costa Rica

Is Nosara worth visiting?

We think so. The beaches are incredible. The people are friendly. The food is fantastic. The challenging part is getting to Nosara. While it is only 2.5 hours from Guanacaste International Airport in Liberia, some 40 minutes of the road is dirt and bumpy. But you're in Costa Rica, so rough roads are part of the experience!

Can you swim in Nosara?

Yes, you can swim the Nosara beaches of Playa Guiones, Playa Pelada, and Playa Nosara. Watch out for the flag warnings, though, as you may find strong currents, especially at Playa Pelada. Nosara is better for surfers than swimmers.

Do you need a car in Nosara?

It isn’t necessary, but without a car you'll need either public transport, a private shuttle, or to fly to Nosara. Once there, don't need a car although one could be useful for exploring the various surf beaches up and down the coast.

How do I get to Nosara?

If you're flying in from the closest international airport, Guanacaste International Airport in Liberia, head out of the airport, take a right on Hwy 21 until 160 and take that into Nosara. When you turn on 160, you'll be right by a gas station, so if you need gas, grab it or grab a drink. It’s going to get bumpy.

Is Nosara expensive?

Yes, it can be. We are starting to see a flux of ex-pats living there. You have to do your research and figure out what you are looking to do while you are there.

Is Nosara or Tamarindo better?

Tamarindo is considered the party town of Costa Rica. Nosara is viewed as one of the surf and yoga towns of Costa Rica. It depends on what you are looking for in your trip. Can you do both? You sure can, so we can let you decide.
