On the Shores of Papagayo Gulf

Occidental is strategically located 30 minutes away from the Liberia International Airport in the Papagayo area. Tucked in the hills near the coast, it’s also within 10 minutes of swimmable beaches like Panama and Arenillas.

Adult-Only Resort with Ocean Views

From the moment of arrival you receive premium treatment: check in at a private lounge and enjoy access to exclusive areas of the hotel. Since the hotel is perched on a hillside, the expansive views of Papagayo Gulf and Culebra Bay are visible from the night club, bar, reception, and even the gift shop.

This hotel has an authentic laid-back, tropical vibe, excellent for discovering the country’s natural beauty. All rooms in the hotel have a balcony or terrace to enjoy those warm evenings as the sun goes down. They also serve as perfect spots to admire the lush gardens as you eat your lunch.

With dedicated customer service and well-appointed rooms, this hotel is a great destination to hide from the worries of the world and have a relaxing time.

An All-Inclusive Beachfront Resort in Guanacaste

The hotel has 163 guestrooms, distributed among six buildings. It’s set along the cliffs of Culebra Bay (Culebra means snake), providing both great ocean views and modern accommodations.

Each room has modern amenities, including a minibar which is refilled regularly so you can keep hydrated and full during your days of adventures and relaxation.

Rooms also have private balconies or terraces to sit back and admire the views around you. The hotel is located right in front of the ocean, so the beach is easily accessible from the property. In addition, make sure to take advantage of the daily scheduled shuttle to the other nearby beaches as well.

Occidental is an all-inclusive resort, which means all meals and drinks (except for some premium alcohol) are included during your stay. From the minibar to the swim-up bar at the pool and the on-site restaurants, the resort has several options for you to enjoy.

Days Full of On-Site Activities

To level up the experience even more, stop by the U-Spa to be pampered with therapeutic massages or facials. Turkish baths and saunas are also great options to unwind and forget about the world outside.

However, the hotel also hosts some cultural events, like themed music evenings three times a week.

Indulge in the sounds of violins, saxophones, or guitars as played by local musicians. For something a little more competitive, you can also test yourself against other guests in a friendly game of chess or other table games.

There is also the on-site nightclub, where guests can dance with both American and Latino music as well as drink tasty signature cocktails until late at night.

If you want to pump it up there are outdoor options as well. Ride a bike across the property to breathe in the sea air and its peace, or exercise with a good game of tennis or volleyball. Guided walks are also available if you want to learn more about the area and Costa Rican nature and culture.

Head to the beach, where the Gulf makes for a great area not just to swim but also to practice water sports. Scuba diving, kayaking, and snorkeling tours are all available to book if you want to admire the coast’s rich biodiversity. Keep your eyes open for a chance to spot stingrays, turtles, and puffer fish.

Local & International Dining

As an all-inclusive hotel, Occidental Papagayo makes sure its guests are well provided during meals.

The two main dining locations are the buffet and the a la carte restaurant. They rotate their cuisine styles every day, making for a total of three restaurants and four additional bars in the property. They offer both Costa Rican and international dishes.

The international buffet restaurant is called L’Buffet, and it’s open at select hours throughout the day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Here you can enjoy classic American favorites as well as Costa Rican traditional meals.

Overlooking the waters of the bay, The Italian offers a more elegant, yet relaxed ambiance for dinner. Try gourmet dishes with seasonal twists based on local flavors and products.

Similarly, D’Oriental provides a fusion between different Asian cuisines for those palates craving something even more exotic. Relax and dine in a peaceful and lively environment. Make sure to book your space for dinner at the a la carte restaurants, they go by pretty fast!

Finally, one of the bars is right at the pool. Grab a quick snack or a refreshing smoothie while splashing in the water. Or take a bite with you before going out to explore and play in the beach or forest. Don’t forget to try their Crazy Monkey for a delicious tropical drink.

Lounge at the Two Swimming Pools

Lounging at one of the two swimming pools is an excellent option for those who want some quiet time.

The largest pool is what the hotel refers to as the ‘activity pool’. Sometimes there are aqua aerobics, dance classes, and even bingo. If you prefer to rest, sunbathe at one of the nearby chairs and enjoy the soft breeze and palm trees at the property.

The second pool is ideal for those who want an even more laid-back ambiance. Enjoy the gardens around you while sipping on a cocktail from the Wet Bar (open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). The pools are also open to guests from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Guanacaste’s Flora and Fauna

The hotel’s grounds are well-kept with plenty of shrubs, trees, and tropical flowers. This means various local animals visit and move among the branches and leaves. Animal lovers can enjoy the call of howler monkeys and get the chance to spot birds, reptiles like iguanas and lizards, and other mammals like squirrels and raccoons walking around.
