What to Expect from ‘Wildlife & Birdwatching in Caño Negro by Boat

There are about 200 bird species between the resident and migratory ones at any given time. Some of them include the Glossy Ibis, heron, cormorant, black-nicked stilt, anhinga, American widgeon, Northern shoveler, wood stork, white ibis, black-bellied whistling duck, snail kite, green-backed heron, Nicaraguan grackle, and the blue-winged teal.

The ride is comfortable and relaxing and offers tons of chances for great photos. There’s an 18-meter tall tower perfect for a panoramic shot of the lagoon. There’s also a gazebo and a wheelchair-accessible boardwalk.

During the wetter months, May through December, you can get to the lagoon by boat and see even more wildlife. During other months, the lagoon dries up, but that makes it easier to spot caimans and roseate spoonbills as you walk around the lagoon area on foot.
