What do I need to get married in Costa Rica?
Complete names of bride and groom.
Copy of birth certificate indicating place and date of the birth.
Age, nationality, profession, and passport numbers.
Current address.

Both the birth certificate and the civil status must be authenticated by the Costa Rican Consulate if you want to make the wedding legal in Costa Rica.

 

What type of identification will I need to get married in Costa Rica?
Passports are the only accepted identifications for legal purposes. Your driver’s license, social security card and other photo IDs are accepted whenever you make payments and minor transactions. Passports are required at banks, migratory and legal processes.

 

Who performs the wedding ceremony?
If you have a religious denomination a priest, pastor etc. does; however there is always an attorney present to make the marriage legal.
If you have no religious denomination, said lawyer can perform the wedding ceremony and file the documentation at the Civil Service Registry and your Embassy.

 

How long do I have to be in the country to get married?
There is no specific length of time required for you to be in Costa Rica before getting married. Just make sure you are complying to your tourist visa requirements.
