Reserva Conchal is a great destination for those who know how to enjoy a slow-paced vacation. With all the amenities of a 5-star resort, staying in a rental condo at Reserva Conchal affords a greater sense of privacy and independence. The condos have everything you need for cooking, washing clothes, TV, and natural entertainment with spacious balconies overlooking the golf course and ocean below. Additionally, each of the 3 condo complexes has its own club house with an infinity pool, jacuzzi, ping pong and outdoor living space.
The hub of the property is the beach club, which was a 10 minute windy drive from the Carao condos, though shuttle transportation is provided, just be prepared to wait a bit! Here you will find 2 restaurants --one open air and a larger indoor one that doubles as conference space -- a Spa, well-equipped exercise complex, and a congruent pool and sun deck with two swimming areas separated by a elegant walk way and a bar and bathroom on each end. I wouldn't have batted an eye if I saw Julia Roberts or George Clooney walk by in white bathing suits and over-sized sunglasses. The place is so elegant it makes you feel elegant! Try lounging in one of the white linen canopy beds set in the shade at the far corners of the pool.
On top of it, I never knew this before, but Playa Conchal has to be one of the top 5 beaches in Costa Rica. It has white sand, plentiful sea shells, a perfect turquoise color (which disappears when its gloomy out), and we saw so many jumping fish it has to be great for snorkeling. There is direct beach access from the beach club and its hard to pick which spot best merits your time and attention!
Overall, time passed too quickly during our stay and I promised I wouldn't go back unless it was for a full week. We had a rental car which was convenient as there was a grocery store within 5 minutes of the property. If you don't have money on the mind, the restaurants were of great quality and stayed open late (past 10pm) for us when we arrived for late check-in. They also offer Express Market, which will fill up your fridge before you arrive with groceries for your convenience, or a 24-hour room service option, though we tried calling and the reception was so bad we couldn't get an order in.
I definitely recommend this property, and note the condos are so spacious, our three bedroom slept 6, but you wouldn't know that anyone was there if the other 5 were in their bedrooms. Of course it's perfect for golfers, but for those who aren't (myself included) the reserve offers a relaxing, worry-free getaway - the best of both worlds if choosing between a rental and a hotel.

I visited Carao the weekend of July 11th (2009) for 2 nights. This was my first trip to Reserva Conchal. I was met by a very competent and friendly staff at the rentals office. Check in was flawless and the greeting and general information shared was very helpful. We were then show to a lovely 3 bedroom unit on the second floor. The Carao section of Reserva is located past Bougainvillea and Malinche overlooking the golf course. The location was actually convenient as it was not a bad walk from Carao, through the golf club house and down a path through the Paradisus Hotel right through to the Beach Club. We walked it several times and it never took more than 7 minutes or so. The view from our unit was okay, we could see the golf course, surrounding trees, and a glimpse of the ocean. The balcony was spacious with very comfortable seating and a table and chairs for dining or games or whatever. Another nice feature was the small private pool available for Carao guests. There are lounge chairs, bathrooms and shaded areas too. This area acts as the pick up point for the shuttle.
The unit itself was decorated in a very classy elegant style. All the furnishings were stylish and comfortable. The fake plants and trees were a bit tacky. The Master bedroom had a king bed, private bath, jacuzzi tub, TV, and huge closets. The second bedroom had a queen bed, TV, jacuzzi tub, and was very roomy. The third bedroom had two twins, TV, shower, and again large closets. The kitchen was equipped with every convenience and plenty of glasses, cookware, and silverware. There was also a washer and dryer.
All in all I would classify the unit as luxury. We utilized the restaurant, bar, spa, gym, pool, and beach areas while there. The service in these areas was very good, very friendly, and pretty efficient. I thought each meal was excellent, and prices were about what you would expect for a higher end resort ($8 to $40 for dinner options). The pool was especially pretty and the beach was clean and very nice. Looking down the beach at the Paradisus made me happy I was not packed in with all the guests there. I think Reserva would be an excellent recommendation for families, couples, and groups of friends. I think it is a good value for the money.
