Poas and La Paz Waterfall Gardens
The La Paz waterfall gardens are the most famous waterfalls in Costa Rica with their own private butterfly gardens and walking trails. The gardens and waterfalls are easy to access for all abilities, and sit just beyond the Poas Volcano National Park en route from San Jose.
This volcano is famous for the turquoise blue water that sits in its crater, which is easily seen from a visitors viewing area in the park. The crater is void of vegetation and its unique colors makes it seem like something out of this world. The park is also located at the edge of a cloud forest, and you feel like you’re on top of the world as the clouds go rushing by just overhead, occasionally emerging tourists in a misty blanket.
A side trail leads you even deeper into the Cloud Forest, with enchanting and eerie looking vegetation. All paths are paved and well constructed with guard rails and friction strips where necessary. It is also quite chilly, so be sure to dress in layers!
