Playa Conchal Costa Rica
As far as Costa Rican beaches go, Playa Conchal Costa Rica is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. Unlike many Costa Rican beaches, Playa Conchal features powdery white sand which, upon closer investigation, is actually formed by millions of crushed shells.
The beach itself is not that long, but is a nice-sized stretch for strolling or running as you enjoy the peaceful sound of the calm waves hitting shore. On the north end of the beach, the shells become larger and you can really find some unique, intact, and colorful shells as souvenirs! The beach on this north end eventually gives way to warm tide pools amidst the rocks…the more adventuresome can actually climb out on the rocks or cross over them to access other more remote beaches such as Brasilito and Portrero.
The other outstanding feature of Playa Conchal is the calm water which is a radiant shade of blue. Perfect for swimming and snorkeling, the waters are excellent for families with children. Occasionally the waves will attract surfers; however, Conchal is not necessarily known for its great surf (travel to nearby Playa Tamarindo, Playa Langosta, or Playa Grande for much better waves).
Accommodations at Playa Conchal are somewhat limited. Most people visit Conchal for the day while staying at nearby Tamarindo Beach where hotels are plentiful for all budget ranges. However, if you want the convenience of staying right at Conchal, and are willing to treat yourself to a luxury experience, the 5-start Paradisus Playa Conchal all-inclusive resort and Reserva Conchal condominiums and beach club are a fabulous option and highly recommended.
The Paradisus Resort is the most exclusive resort in Costa Rica with 5 restaurants, 3 bars, 2 lounges, world-class golf course and spa, and plenty more to keep everyone entertained and relaxed. Reserva Conchal condominiums are slightly separated from the Resort, but an all-inclusive pass to the Resort can be purchased per day if you wish. The beach club, to which all condo residents have free access, is outstanding with two 5-star restaurants, a beautiful and extremely professional spa, and two large and relaxing pools with direct beach access. A rental car is recommended if staying at Reserva Conchal as the property is quite large and waiting on the shuttle is a bit inconvenient.
In conclusion, Playa Conchal Costa Rica has all the qualities of a “not to be missed” beach while visiting Costa Rica…soft white sand, calm and clean blue waters, and luxurious accommodation options. And, if the accommodation options don’t fit your budget, at the very least a day-trip to this treasure of Costa Rica is highly recommended!
