Depart from your hotel to
quickly visit
several Panama City sites, including Panama Viejo, the first city founded on the
isthmus by the Spanish at the beginning of colonization. The remaining ruins
are the vestiges left by Pirate Henry Morgan, who sacked the town in 1671.
The second colonial city of
Panama, Casco Viejo, was built in 1673. Walk the French plaza and
surrounding area. The architecture here is exquisite including French, Italian,
American and Spanish styles. Many tourists describe it as feeling like "a
miniature New Orleans".
See other Panama City sites en
route to the last stop, the Miraflores Locks of the Panama Canal. Here you
will witness the workings of the Panama Canal as massive ships pass through just
feet away.
The Canal museum is quite
impressive and does a great job to explain the years and lives that were
invested into the Canal. It also shows just how much work is required to keep
the Canal functioning. It really is an engineering marvel.
