Located in the Gulf of Panama, the Pearl Islands are a group of over 100 islands, some of which still remain uninhabited.  The most popular island in the archipelago is Contadora Island, which is also home to several resorts and tourist attractions. Several wealthy Panamanians have also built vacation homes in this island. Because of its popularity there are several direct flights from Panama City to Contadora.

The largest island in the archipelago is Isla del Rey, home to the town of San Miguel which is famous for being site of archaeological digs where dozens of pre-Columbian artifacts have been found. Other islands in the archipelago include: Gallo Island, Canal Island, Cocos Island, Espiritu Santo Island and Cocos Island.

Eco-tourism is perhaps the most popular activity in the Pearl Islands, adventure tours and activities include snorkeling, kayaking and more. The Pearl Islands became famous worldwide when they were used for three different seasons of the popular reality TV show “Survivor”.
