Santa Catalina
Playa Santa Catalina is one of Panama’s most popular and remote surf meccas set on the west side of the Azuero Peninsula on the Chiriqui Golf in the province of Veraguas. Visitors will find endless dark sand beaches, warm water and a consistent surf break ranging from powerful expert waves to a much tamer surf for beginners toward Playa El Estero to the east.
The town is also a convenient home base for diving and snorkeling trips to the nearby Coiba Island (Isla Coiba), which is just a short boat trip off shore. Visitors can expect a range of comfortable, small hotels and paved roads from Santiago all the way to the beach. Santa Catalina is about a 5 to 6 hour drive from both ends of Panama (David and Panama City), a distance that has kept is relatively laid back and low key in comparison to other Panama beach towns.
