Volcan
Volcan, located in the Chiriqui highlands close to the more visited town of Boquete, is a diamond in the rough, or so claim the growing number of expats retiring to the region. Locals consider it the Land of Eternal Spring, and the temperate climate allows for just about anything to grow, making gardening one of the most popular past times.
Most travelers to the area come to visit the Baru Volcano National Park, the highest point in Panama at 11,000 ft, it is also an exceptional bird watching destination, home to the resplendent quetzal. The town offers many hiking options to take in new perspectives of the beautiful landscape, with rolling green fields bordered by towering sharp-tipped mountains and traversed by fresh springs, waterfalls and rivers.
The small town has plenty of restaurants and a handfull of good lodging options, making for a comfortable and refreshing escape from the hot coastal areas of Panama.
