DAY BY DAY
Day 1—Fly into San Jose, Costa Rica where you will be met inside the airport and taken right to your waiting private transfer. You’ll spend your first night in Costa Rica’s capital at the luxurious Grano de Oro Hotel. Home to one of the city’s best restaurants, the converted Victorian mansion is a great welcome to country.
Day 2—You will be picked up early in the morning to start making your way to Tortuguero, located on the northeastern Caribbean Coast. You’ll transfer by van to the edge of the 400,000 acre Barra de Colorado National Park and Tortuguero Reserve where you will board a boat for the final hour. Here you’ll stay at the eco-friendly Pachira Lodge, which has 84 rooms, a nice restaurant, and two pools to cool off in. Once you arrive the rest of the day is yours to relax or explore the small town in Tortuguero.
Day 3 & 4—Head out fishing for a full day of tarpon and snook with your private guide and local expert, Primo. He grew up in the area and has been fishing here for over 20 years so he knows all the best spots and can read the water as good as anyone. Some days you’ll see tarpon rolling and can cast to them, other days you jig for them, and some days you can troll for them with dead bait. You can also catch jacks, snapper, kingfish, and small bull sharks!
Day 5—You’ll transfer by boat out of Tortuguero then by van to the north central part of the country, home to the Arenal Volcano. Here you’ll stay at the new Royal Corin Hotel, which features stunning volcano views from every room and it’s own set of heated thermal pools to relax in after a long day.
Day 6—Enjoy a day of fresh water fishing on Costa Rica’s largest fresh water lake, Lake Arenal. Your private guide, Tirsio, is local to the area and has over 25 years experience fishing so he is undoubtedly the local expert and one of the best fishermen in the entire country. Today you’ll fish for tilapia, mojarra, the tasty rainbow bass, and the always hungry machaca – or mini tarpon.
Day 7—Today Tirsio will take you 1.5 hours north of the Arenal Volcano for a real treat – fishing in the Caño Negro Reserve and the Rio Frio for tarpon, snook, and giant alligator gar. This is one of the most exotic and remote regions of Costa Rica, so while fishing for these freshwater monsters keep an eye out for crocodiles, sloths, and even jaguar.
Day 8—You will take a private air-conditioned transfer out to the northwestern corner of Costa Rica known as Guanacaste. Here we have you staying at the beautiful Cala Luna Hotel, located directly on the quiet Playa Langosta and just minutes from the popular beach town of Tamarindo. Stay in their boutique 20 room hotel or one of their private 2 & 3 bedroom villas, each with a full kitchen and private pool.
Day 9—It’s finally time to experience what helped make Costa Rica so famous – it’s world class deep sea fishing. Head off-shore with our legendary American captain, who with over 35 years of experience will be sure to put you on the fish. Try your hand at landing sailfish, dorado, wahoo, yellow-fin tuna, or if you are really lucky – a marlin.
Day 10—Relax and enjoy the beach or let us take you on an exhilarating combo tour into one of national parks!
Day 11—Today you’ll go in-shore fishing for a variety of species including jacks, mackerel, snapper, grouper, and our famous roosterfish. Trolling or bottom fishing, you’ll spend this day near the reefs and volcanic islands that are near Tamarindo’s coastline.
Day 12—Tired, sunburn, and hopefully with a camera full of pictures we will fly you 50 minutes back to the SJO International Airport for your international flight home.
