Arenal
Costa Rica is notorious for being home to seven historically active volcanoes, the most famous of all being the majestic Arenal. Located in the sunny province of Alajuela, the young volcano, affectionately called “Guatuso Peak”, remained dormant for years until it erupted in 1968 destroying the small village of Tabacón. In the years that followed, the area became a popular destination for tourists coming to see the display of fireworks caused by constant eruptions, as well as to see the lava running down the volcano.
