Nosara
Nosara is located in the province of Guanacaste and because of its dreamlike location has become the most popular destination for expats who find new homes in its forest-surrounded beaches. Nosara is also prominent among tourists looking for yoga getaways who find complete peace on the beaches of Guiones, Pelada and the black-sand Playa Nosara. Next to Playa Nosara is the Ostional beach, also home to the wildlife refuge that bears its name. Most of this region is surrounded by protected forests that have earned it a reputation as a true paradise for eco-tourists.

The Nicoya Peninsula is home to some of Costa Rica’s most beautiful beaches, including Playa Samara, Montezuma and Santa Teresa. Tortuguero
Often compared to Venice and the Amazon, for its navegable canals, the town of Tortuguero is one of Costa Rica’s hidden treasures. Located in the northeastern area of the province of Limón, the village of Tortuguero lies on a sand bar island facing the Caribbean Sea and the Tortuguero River. Its name literally means “place of the turtles” because it’s the yearly setting for the arrival of four different species of sea turtle who nest on its beaches.

Puerto Viejo
The town of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is located in the province of Limón, perhaps Costa Rica’s warmest region. Simply known to visitors as “Puerto Viejo” (although this might lead to confusion given that another Puerto Viejo exists in the northeast part of the country) this small town has become extremely popular because of its beaches and has gained worldwide fame among surfers, who show up there every year to try and master the country’s most powerful wave, known as Salsa Brava.

Because of its location, a mere two hours away from San José, Jacó might be the most popular beach in Costa Rica, with both locals and tourists finding it to be the perfect weekend getaway. Part of the Puntarenas province, Jacó is known for its reputation as the Costa Rican party town by excellence. Playas del Coco
Located less than an hour away from Liberia International Airport, Playas del Coco is one of the most popular beach destinations in Costa Rica. Conformed by several small beaches, the most popular being the one that gives the town its name, “El Coco” as it’s affectionately called, is perhaps only to second to Liberia, in terms of most developed towns in the province of Guanacaste.
