Santa Rosa National Park is located in the province of Guanacaste, about 22 miles from Liberia. The park was the site of the famous Battle of Santa Rosa, where the Costa Rican army ousted a troop of invaders led by filibuster William Walker. Today an hacienda-style house stands on the grounds to commemorate the battle.
The park features an array of ecosystems including savannah, marshlands and mangroves. Among the animal species you can find there are: coatis, coyotes, land turtles, monkeys and countless bird species. Jaguars and cougars live in the surrounding areas but are rarely seen by visitors.
