The
Hotel Bougainvillea offers country living with its crisp air, refreshing breeze and panoramic vistas. While it may seem worlds away from city life, it is less than five miles from downtown via a free hourly shuttle bus. Surrounded by coffee plantations and citrus orchards, the lush gardens provide an enticing setting for jogging through winding trails, playing tennis, or relaxing by the pool. The decor is comprised of original paintings and sculptures from some of
Costa Rica's leading artists specifically commissioned for the hotel.
Massive beam ceilings, wood paneling and a fireplace give the hotel bar the intimate feeling of a country inn. The gourmet restaurant features international cuisine served elegantly on imported bone china with fresh flowers garnishing every table. Each detail of the hotel and restaurant operation is supervised by
owner Hans Van der Wielen, who brought his extensive European
tourism experience with him when he moved to Costa Rica in 1961.
Rooms are large with two Double beds, a sitting area and a full range
of amenities. There are also five Junior Suites and six rooms
appropriate for disabled persons. The furniture is made of Costa Rican
hardwoods, and all rooms have cable TV and direct dial telephones. Each
room has a balcony offering marvelous views of the mountains on one
side and the
San Jose skyline on the other.
