Costa Rica’s President Joins Fight to Strengthen Tourism

Promotion of Rural Tourism is One of Arias’s Main Goals.

President Oscar Arias presented two bills to the Legislative Assembly on Monday with the intent to stimulate tourism activity once again in the country despite the global economic crisis. The proposed laws would define tourism policies and norms to regulate one of the most important revenue generating industries in the country and promote the participation and training of rural communities.

Not taking the current global economic situation lightly, the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) will be taking part in 45 international tourism fairs this year to attract more foreign visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the country. This proactive approach to stimulating high tourist numbers in the country marks a record for the number of fairs that the ICT will participate in during the period of a year.

Costa Rica Airport Improvements Delayed Again

Project Financing Affected by Economic Crisis.

The Houston Airport System Development Corporation (HASDC), which was awarded a contract to become the new management group for the Juan Santamaria International Airport, lost its promised $100 million loan from the J.P. Morgan bank to complete pending projects on the airport. Despite this huge setback, HASDC promises to begin the remodeling with its own $30 million, $10 million less than they originally offered last September.

Costa Rica Blues Fest 2009 This Weekend

Blues Music and an Outdoor Barbecue this Saturday in San Jose.

The second annual Costa Rica Blues Fest 2009 is coming this Saturday, Feb 7th to Santa Ana, but you don’t have to wait until then to meet the bands and enjoy some live music. The open air, 13-hour long Texas style barbecue and 10 band concert will be (and has been) proceeded by appearances by the music groups around the country.
