Silver King Lodge

For over 17 years the Silver King Lodge has been the leader in tarpon fishing on Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast. This upscale fishing lodge is located directly on the Rio Colorado, which along with the Rio San Juan forms the northern border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua. The Rio San Juan runs all the way from Lake Nicaragua until it empties into the Caribbean Sea, which means that at the Silver King Lodge you can fish for snook and guapote in the quiet lagoons and back rivers, fish for tarpon right at the mouth of the river as it empties into the Caribbean, or go off-shore fishing for dorado, tuna, wahoo, and even billfish just 40 minutes from the lodge. With its perfect location and tarpon that average 100-120 pounds it is no wonder why they are the leading fishing lodge on the Caribbean.

After your quick 30 minute flight from San Jose you’ll be a world away from the city life and amidst the huge, 400,000 acre Barra del Colorado Nature Reserve in the very northeastern corner of Costa Rica. Your day starts early here as breakfast is served at 5:30 AM and while you are eating your tarpon guides are preparing the boats. Their 12 boat fleet of 23’ V-fiberglass hulls is the fastest and safest in the area. As soon as you are ready you can go out to your boat and fish where you prefer – back water lagoons, the mouth of the Rio Colorado, or go off-shore into the Caribbean. You’ll come back to the lodge at 11 AM so you can take a nap in one of the hammocks, take a dip in the pool, or cool off in your spacious air conditioned room. After lunch you’ll head back out fishing at 1:30 PM where you can decide to go back to a hot spot you found earlier in the day or try something completely different. The fishing day ends at 5:00 PM when you’ll come back to the lodge and relax until dinner.

Even though most people come here for the world class tarpon and snook fishing, the fact that you are on vacation is not lost here. Hammocks lining the dock right along the Rio Colorado make for the perfect napping spot and your spacious, air conditioned rooms are the most luxurious accommodations you can find in the Barra del Colorado. As this is an all-inclusive property you can enjoy the satellite TV in the bar, enjoy a cold drink in the pool with a waterfall, a beautiful new hot tub, a sauna, and even a spa to sooth your muscles after a long day of fighting the silver king. The Silver King Lodge will also provide you with first class Ambassador and Accurate tackle, however if you want to bring your own or prefer to fly fish you are more than welcome to.
