Crocodile Bay

Welcome to Costa Rica’s premier fishing lodge! Since the Crocodile Bay Lodge opened in 2000 it has quickly made a name for itself among serious anglers and the international sport fishing community. Countless sport fishing magazines, outdoor shows, and even ESPN have featured and raved about the Crocodile Bay Lodge. From the moment the big double doors open and you are greeted with welcome cocktail you know you will be in good hands during your stay here. Spacious air conditioned rooms, great food, and personal service make this one of the most luxurious hotels in the entire Osa Peninsula. However besides all the media attention and celebrity visits Crocodile Bay has received, the only thing you need to know to realize that this is a serious sport fishing lodge is that they have more fishing boats (40) than hotel rooms (34).

Accessible only by small plane, this is one of the most exotic and beautiful places in the world. Located five minutes from the sleepy town of Puerto Jimenez in the isolated Osa Peninsula, the Crocodile Bay Lodge is the perfect location for world class fishing and a relaxing, tropical vacation. Here you will be just steps from the clear waters of the Golfo Dulce and surrounded by the stunning Corcovado National Park which covers almost the entire peninsula. This area is so pristine and full of life that National Geographic has called it “the most biologically intense place on Earth.”

A typical day starts with an early breakfast in the restaurant before you make your way down to the pier to go out fishing. Whether you prefer estuary fishing, surf casting, in-shore fishing, or off-shore fishing for billfish it is your choice. You can fish the 30 mile rocky shoreline just minutes from the pier, fish for roosterfish at ‘The Rock’, or go deep sea fishing where sailfish gather in crowds. Your time on the water usually ends at about 3 – 4 PM, which conveniently enough is when the happy hour in the bar starts. Treat yourself to cold drinks and snacks while the famous white board is updated with each boat’s hauling for the day. After you play pool, watch satellite TV (yes they have NFL Direct Ticket), and tell enough fishing stories it’s time for dinner where you can eat what you caught or order your choice off the menu. As this is an all-inclusive resort, there is no need to hold back on how much you eat or drink – after all you’re on vacation!

While it has certainly made a name for itself with its world class fishing, the Crocodile Bay Lodge is far from your typical ‘fisherman only’ lodge. Even if you don’t touch a fishing rod during your stay here you will have a vacation to remember. Crocodile Bay offers over 15 different adventure and eco tours including a canopy tour, ATVs, surfing, hiking in the Corcovado National Park, waterfall repelling, kayaking, and scuba diving at Caño Island to name just a few. You can also explore the resort’s 44 acres of tropical gardens, visit their butterfly garden, and see where they got their name from as you watch the huge crocodiles take in the sun in the crocodile lagoon on the back of the property. When the tropical sun gets too hot for you take a dip in the pool or just park it at the swim up bar. If the purpose of your trip is educational or an executive retreat you can take advantage of the high tech conference center on the property for no extra charge. The new gem of the property however is what sets it apart from nearly every other fishing lodge in Costa Rica. The brand new 5,000 square foot spa is truly top of the line and is as nice as any spa in the entire country. Whether it’s for your own tired muscles after a long day of fishing or for that special someone who hates fishing but loves you, it’s a guarantee that the spa at Crocodile Bay will meet everyone’s needs.
