CRV Charity Efforts
Casa Luz
Casa Luz is in La Guacima de Alajuela, The mission of Casa Luz is to break the intergenerational cycle of abuse and sexual exploitation of the children in Costa Rica by providing a safe, loving, Christian environment for at risk young mothers (age 16+) and their children.
Thsi environment will provide the resources necessary to allow these families healthy and successful participation and reintegration in society.

Project Overview: Casa Luz is a home for young mothers from the age of 16. These girls have been sexually abused and/or exploited, come from extreme poverty and are at high social risk. Casa Luz is the first stage of our vision to change the lives of these girls and their children. The home can accommodate 15 mothers and 20 or more of their children. We provide shelter, emotional support, educational and vocational development, Christian spiritual training, and training in parenting skills.

At the time of our event there were four live-in house mothers, a social worker, a psychologist, two school teachers, one part-time nursery worker and two cooks on staff, to provide 24 hour care and counseling. It is expected that each mother and her children will need a minimum of two years in the first stage of fully dependent living at Casa Luz. One long term goal for these girls is to ure.

The process of developing stage two of the project has already begun, it will provide subsidized housing and support in a semi-independent living environment. This will allow the girls that are ready to move into the community and/or workforce while still being closely linked to the support at Casa Luz.
The vision for this property is the construction of double family units and a multi-purpose center. Their hope is to use this center for a future daycare and kinder programs and for community outreach. It is their hope that this second stage will be built gradually over the next two to three years.
