We set off from San Jose in the early morning en route to our destination of the remote, off-the- beaten path location of Tortugero, on the northeastern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Little did we know what adventures were to come! Our private transport provided by the Manatus Hotel, quickly wound its way up and out of the congestion of the city, headed due east along Hwy 32, one of the most scenic and beautiful drives, snaking through the Braulio Carrillo National Park.

The Boutique Hotel Manatus provides the total Costa Rican vacation package, leaving its guests with little to desire. I can honestly say this was one of my favorite experiences that I’ve had in the country. With Manatus, private transportation isn’t merely a shuttle ride, it is a full tour with a typical Costa Rican breakfast, banana plantation tour and a stop at beautiful tropical gardens with monkeys, toucans, sloths, frogs and a variety of heliconias and other tropical plants.

Cala Luna is a nice hotel close to Tamarindo. It’s nice because it is out of the way (all the way at the end of Tamarindo. The beach is very quiet and it’s like a 15 minute walk to Tamarindo Beach. I wasn’t impressed with the standard rooms because they were very simple and there are no ocean view rooms. The hotel isn’t right on the beach like Tamarindo Diria.

Tamarindo Diria is a beach front hotel located in the heart of Tamarindo Beach. The front desk is located in the main entrance of the hotel, right in front of the swimming pool, which makes a really fresh and cool atmosphere to all clients upon arrival and check in. Next to the pool there are two restaurants, The Diria for Breakfast and dinner, and Matapalo for lunch and dinner, located right on the beach.

Capitan Suizo is probably one of my favorite hotels in Tamarindo. It manages to give you a sense of privacy while being walking distance from downtown! I think it’s a perfect spot to relax during the day and hit the Tamarindo bars at night.
