This weekend Costa Rican Vacations visited the hotel featured in the 1000 places to stay before your die, Hotel La Mariposa Manuel Antonio. This hotel has offered a supreme level of service and quality for many years and this has followed through in their construction of new rooms and wrap around pool.
Hotel La Mariposa is situated on a bluff 500ft above sea level and the Washington post back in the early 2000’s said that it had one of the top 5 views of the Pacific Ocean in the world. The hotel itself has been in need of a renovation for quite some time as its Old deluxe Ocean View rooms are starting to show wear.
In the early 2000’s the new Premier Suites were built and this was the hotel room that we stayed in this weekend. The view is splendid stretching over the Manuel Antonio National Park and out to the Ocean. The room itself is very befitting with a relaxed feel to it however it could use some internal love as the walls are bare and white wash, it needs some bright pictures. The bathroom is very nice with an oriental tiled bathroom and pebbled wall bring a natural feel to it. However the main bedroom itself is of a very high quality but needs to be given a little homely love.
The hotel has built some new premier suites which are shiny new however very contemporary and futuristic in their design and for the European traveler maybe a bit to hard on the eye. It has a very Star Trek feel to it however the management says that North American Clients enjoy these rooms but the Europeans do not.
My suggestion is stay in the premier suites if possible as you will be happy with these, however lower grade rooms are not luxury quality but mediocre quality.
The food at the hotel is good and the staff are friendly, the hotel also makes a mean BBC cocktail and serves ice cold beer. Recently the hotel had a new pool built which wraps around the jacuzzi in the middle, this is great for kids to play in.
In summary the hotel is a lower end 4 star hotel however by far has the best view in Costa Rica and some of the best service and dining. This hotel is for honeymooners, families, couples and elderly people.
