Having never been to Villa Blanca I always had the opinion of why would I go to Villa Blanca as it has no unique selling point to me, what can i get there that I cannot get elsewhere in Costa Rica?
Having traveled all throughout CR and stayed at the majority of the luxury hotels in Costa Rica I am now what I like to call 'a hotel snob', I never wanted to be, but hey that is the way the cookie crumbles. You drive a Rolls Royce everyday and going back to your Ford Focus is just not going to be the same.
I took my wife to Villa Blanca as it is only 90 minutes from San Jose and the thought of having my own Casita with an open fireplace was a luxury to me. Coming from the UK fireplaces are common, however here in Costa Rica they are as common as Costa Rican restaurants in London.
The casitas are beautiful and designed in a very Tico style decor with the typical blue and white paint exterior. Inside the roof is all Cana Brava (similar to bamboo) and all rooms offer a queen or king size bed. There are 3 types of rooms: Superior, the Deluxe and the Honeymoon Suites. I actually saw all the rooms and liked the basic rooms the best as they were cosier, the only thing they did not have which the others did was the jacuzzi.
We really enjoyed the things to do: Milking Cows, Walking the trails, the night tour, and the Spa was fabulous. This is a great hotel to spend 2-3 nights at at the start of your vacation. The staff are very nice and always ready to help and the food was great.
