My love affair with Costa Rica began about 12 years ago when the Hilton Papagayo was called Blue Bay Village Papagayo and I still have an oversized shirt to prove it. Located in the north of the country in the Guanacaste province, the Hilton Papagayo is accessible from the Liberia International airport, only a twenty minute drive. Pulling up to the resort is an incredible experience. You arrive at the top of a mountaintop and the resort’s grounds sprawl downwards throughout. Rooms are located in bungalows tucked inside lush trees and tropical flowers. Rooms have balconies which boast incredible views of the ocean below. One nice feature is that adjoining rooms can be reserved for families. Though the resort has always been all inclusive and incredible luxurious, this will soon change at the end of November to finance new renovations. It doesn’t matter whether three meals are provided or not, the views and amenities of the hotel stand alone. The hotel can accommodate any type of guest. For larger corporate groups there is a full business center and meeting rooms. For families babysitting services are available as well as a playground and children’s activities. From beauty salon to a full service spa, gift shop to convenience store all necessities and luxuries are provided here. The hotel and its grounds are so gorgeous that it is perfect for weddings, the hotel has an in house wedding coordinator. My cousin will be getting married here in February, so I’ll report more after my next visit. For now, let me just say that the Hilton Papagayo is an unforgettable experience in paradise.
